Full course description
Description: How much time do you spend managing functions - HR, bookkeeping & accounting, IT, legal, etc. - that are not directly related to Hillel programs and missions? Referencing the concept of “comparative advantage,” Jeff Russell, author of “Do What You Do Best – Outsourcing as Capacity Building in the Nonprofit Sector”, will discuss “why” and “how” nonprofits should evaluate outsourcing as a business strategy to manage non-mission-critical functions, allowing for greater focus on what they do best – their mission! During this session, we will discuss the economic concept of Comparative Advantage; explore case studies on effective strategies in managing the accounting function; delve into the concept of “core competencies” and how that can apply to individuals as well as organizations; and discuss the importance of administrative support for mission-based organizations.
